New toons

I am so thrilled I live in an age where cartoons are not just for kids anymore. New animated shows worth checking out:

1. Rick and Morty (Adult Swim) Imagine Doctor Who and Doc Brown (back to the future) had a love child who is a sociopathic alcoholic who forces his own grandson to go with him on highly illegal and unethical adventures through space and time. A bit dark at times, but just the right amount of humor to carry it all through.

2. Space Dandy (Adult Swim Toonami) A new anime series that is actually being simulcast in the US (in english) and Japan at the same time. I watched the premiere in Japanese and will check out the second episode in english to see which one I prefer. From the creator of Cowboy Bebop comes a tale which in many ways is if Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was written by a slightly perverted Japanese guy. You've got the main character (Space Dandy himself) with a sweet pompadour who travels the universe looking for new and undocumented alien species. Cataloging the species for a space encyclopedia is how he makes his money to spend at a chain of 'breasteraunts' (I kid you not...that's what they are called) called BOOBIES which is pretty much what you think of if you think of Hooters in space. A robot sidekick (named QT) helps him out and along the way he gets a new partner (who like Ford Prefect is also from Betelgeuse) who is a cat like species who's name is so unpronounceable they end up calling him Meow. Being chased by what I could only make out was a bad guy who dresses like a space pimp, Space Dandy looks to be an epically bizarre adventure.

If you enjoy quirky animation that makes you laugh, I highly recommend both.
